We are a self-drive and skippered day boat hire company on one of the most beautiful reaches of the River Thames between Reading (Berkshire) and Wallingford (Oxfordshire).
Our hire boats are silent and electric and range from small contemporary self-drive boats for family outings to beautiful classically styled skippered boats for weddings or proposals. We can accommodate corporate events and bigger parties as well.
All our crew are passionate about the River Thames and know the boating environment intimately. They can advise not only on river safety and boat operation but also on where to picnic, good riverside restaurants, where the kingfishers fly and the Loddon lilies grow. Our founder and director, Gillian Nahum, started her original boat business Henley Sales & Charter 30 years ago, in 1992.
While building the sales business, the charter business continued to tick along principally in the Henley area. However there was clearly an opportunity to expand the charter/hire business further afield.
The Swan at Streatley had had a couple of electric boats on site for several years alongside the historic boathouse with its amazing Saunders history. Gillian decided to take over this site and established Pure Boating Ltd in 2015 with a mission to use only electric boats which over the years had proven their reliability and of course their ‘green’ credentials.
When refurbishment of The Swan started, Pure Boating had to relocate, and found a willing landlord in Wallingford at another storied former boatbuilding business now the Boat House pub. This constituted an opportunity to expand the fleet, with further expansion achieved in 2020 when The Beetle & Wedge in Moulsford was purchased and the new owners invited Pure Boating to provide boating for their customers too.
Now that works at The Swan have been completed, we are delighted to be back in Goring and Streatley!
