Our start of the 2018 Thames boating season at Wallingford has again had to be postponed due to the condition of the river. Current flows mean that the river is not safe for navigation and the river has burst its banks at many points along its course. The environment agency has a warning system displayed at all of its lock sites and on line and when ‘red boards’ are shown, all boats are advised not to navigate the river as to do so would be both difficult and dangerous.
Originally, at Pure Boating we had intended to launch the season on Good Friday 30th March. At that time ‘yellow boards’ were showing (ie with stream increasing, boats advised to find a safe mooring and not to navigate) and so we delayed opening initially for a week. Then the heavens opened and the river responded.
Our opening has now therefore been delayed to Friday 20th April by which time we hope that the river will be safe and flood damage cleared up.
So we hope for more clement weather and for the Thames to smile at us again…..and finally for the 2018 boating season to begin in earnest.
For April, we have a 10% on line booking discount for bookings made during the month (whenever the charter is taken) – so get booking!!
